Tell us about the show you’re bringing to Vault Festival.
The Graham Show: Extra Graham is my one man cabaret extravaganza. It’s an evening of big songs and stories from my whirlwind life as an entertainment professional. Audiences can expect a lot of glitter, sass and a few surprises all whilst sat in a tunnel underneath Waterloo.
How did you get into cabaret?
Mammy said as soon as I was born she knew I was destined for the stage. Apparently I skipped the crawling phase and would step ball change everywhere. I got my big break working at a wonderful all-inclusive Spanish holiday resort performing night after night alongside three other fabulous reps. It’s there that I started writing down my memoirs and planning to show the world Graham de la Cruz.
What kind of showbiz anecdotes can audiences expect from your show?
Well, I don’t want to spoil any of these wonderful stories I shall be telling but let’s just say that I’m sure the audience will be fascinated by my tales of growing up in a little sleepy fishing village and making my way to the bright lights of London town. If not, that’s fine, as all the stories are quite short before the next song!
You sold out your Vault Festival show last time you were here. How do you plan to top that success this year?
Well I hope to match the success of last year as I’m still paying Mammy back in weekly installments, you’d be shocked at the price of PVC trousers. I was #blessed last year to have absolutely wonderful audiences who came to have a bloody lovely time and enjoy the party and I loved every minute of it. So grab a pint and get your fierce on!
How much does this show relate to your last one?
It’s as if someone took last year’s show and rolled it in a vat of extra sass. We’ve got some new songs and I’ve done an Amazon order so there’s some lovely props on their way.
What do you hope people take away from your show?
I want everyone to leave feeling happy and ready to dance the night away, and also hopefully not wanting a refund. As long as everyone leaves with a spring in their step then I’ll be overjoyed!
Are there any other shows you’re looking forward to at Vault Festival?
I’ve already been a lucky one and seen some incredible shows. That’s the beauty of Vault. I’d highly recommend The Brief Life and Mysterious Death of Boris III, King of Bulgaria: Part the First by my lovely friends at Out of the Forest, Sugar Coat and the fierce I’m Okayfabe: A Wrestling Comedy. Don’t miss them!
Do you have any advice for anyone looking to get into comedy?
The Graham Show: Extra Graham is at Vault Festival from 17th to 19th March.
