Pretty much all the admin and back end of Blizzard Comedy is handled by our small four-person team. While we’re fucking excellent, we always appreciate extra help from the community to keep these shows running while we’re basically the antithesis of “profitable”.

Volunteer roles range from moderating our Twitch chat during livestream to remove trolls and ensure Blizzard guidelines are observed, to doing some basic tech for us at live shows, someone to take photographs of our live events, and assisting with video editing/subtitling.

Full details follow – and if you are interested in any of these, drop me a quick e-mail and we can discuss further.

Moderators

Moderators are an essential part of any community – particularly a community like ours that is very strict on upholding an inclusive radical leftist ethos.

Moderators are needed both for our Twitch channel and Discord server.

On Twitch we ideally need people who already watch the streams regularly and who are familiar with mod controls. We won’t need you at every single stream, the plan is to have as many mods as possible so that we only need you once every few months and rotate.

To Moderate the Discord server – we’ll just need you to be present in the server and checking at least once a day. Experience modding/running a Discord server is preferable but not essential.

Researchers

Our monthly panel show requires a lot of news research to come together, and the more people contributing to this the better it will be. We don’t ask our researchers to go super out of their way, but just to dump any interesting news stories you come across into a private discord server, which will then be used to create the structure for the show.

If you’d like to be added to the private server, the only rule is that you cannot join the server if you are booked/applying for guest spots on the stream.

Tech

Our shows are usually very minimal on tech, but we do need someone supervising it to play cues for walk on music and to move the projector slides on. We do not currently have a consistent person doing this and it’s been a bit ad hoc.

Ideally we’re looking for someone who comes to most if not all of our live shows and has decent computer literacy, although we will also accept someone who can only do the odd show. Jonny will take you through the specifics on your first night if you take part.

If you’re interested in being added to the tech list, please e-mail Jonny@blizzardcomedy.co.uk with the subject line “Tech”

Video Content Editor

Currently, Jonny does nearly all of the editing for our video and podcast episodes and they’ve recently realized that the workload is too much, and could do with sharing it with someone.

The specific work is fairly straightforward. It mostly boils down to clipping parts of the streams and editing them down for shorter videos, and subtitling stand-up videos. Video editing background is essential for this – professional or otherwise.

If you’re interested, and want to have a chat with you about what we need and what we can offer. Please E-mail Jonny@blizzardcomedy.co.uk

Please note that all of these positions are voluntary.

We are currently operating Blizzard Comedy at a loss, and are not in a position to hire people outside of the comedians we book for our shows (and even those we are still paying less than we would like to). None of the core team take any money from this, and all money we do get is reinvested back into the club, going into acts, merch, admin costs, etc. If this situation changes in the future, some or all of these roles may become paid opportunities – but that is a conversation to have if and when that’s a possibility.

For now please only volunteer if you want to support what we do, can’t donate money but can donate some time to keep us going and running these great shows we do.

Thanks again so much for all your help.
