“We’re nothing without each other. Let’s remember that.” | Austerity Dogs share the energy their upcoming album is bringing into 2025

How are you feeling about life and the world in general coming to the end of 2024?

Gotta take the wins where you can. We’re not optimistic but we’re not as defeated. There’s a lot that needs done and a lot that’s quite spooky coming up, but we’re feeling a togetherness that’s been absent previously. We stayed up when Corbyn lost to Boris and that was killer. This is an improvement but not exactly great.

What do you think have been the stand out news stories of the year? What are you really looking forward to talking about on our end of year show?

The aliens being disclosed is mad innit, Jono was right!! We want to talk about that. Everything else is too fucking dark.

What has been your personal highlight of 2024?

Getting necropolis shaped where it is now ready for release 25. And gigging more as well.

You’ve recently been working on a new album. Can you tell us a bit about what we can expect from it

It’s an extended EP. Basically we follow the mixtape rules. Jono loves horror movies and we have been described as apocalyptic, so we honed in on that and we think it’s worked. It’s as close to an album as you can get. We’re really excited we can finally knock The Void off the podium (our 2nd that was a little too good).

What do you hope people take away from the new music?

Anger, rage, resentment. This record was gonna be an optimistic piece, a little Edwardian ditty-filled, meme McCartney vibes. Then the riot happened. Right on our doorstep. We was performing as it happened all the pubs near us said it wouldn’t get that far. Because it shouldn’t have. We wanna make you feel our intense change from happy to sad and angry.

What are your hopes for the new album?

Again it’s mixtape vibes. But this time we really hammered home the horror vibe. Even if the riot never happened we was always gonna formally introduce a horror undertone this is our gateway into it.

Do you have any other exciting plans for 2025?

More gigs and the first vinyl of ours. The vinyl is a massive step up but the live performances are what shape us. So the more stage time the better. The vinyl is a financial gamble that might pay off if the live shows go as well as they have done previously (luckily we have Jono as our front man).

What are your hopes and fears for 2025 in general?

Hopes is the aliens stop teasing us and just come down. Laser us and wipe us out… but really we hope we stop the infighting. Finger pointing. Virtue signalling. We’ve all fucked this rock up. We’ve all had a part to play in it. Whether you like it or not, the entire time we pointed fingers Mother Earth got warmer. Now we’re in that dangerous bit, the cooling. Let’s take a sec and breathe it in. We’re nothing without each other. Let’s remember that.
