Oh hi, didn’t see you there. We’ve missed you.
Been a while since we’ve announced anything, but we’ve been having some behind-the-scenes chats (not about you or anything, well sometimes about you, but always positive things about how radiant your facial features have been lately). And we’re preparing for the softest of re-launches in 2025!
Before you get your hopes up too much, in the wake of consistent burnout and frankly the financial drain this enterprise is, we are massively scaling back our events programme for the foreseeable future. It was a choice between keeping up the volume of events and massively slashing their budgets, limiting our pool of acts and the general quality of the events. Which wouldn’t really have helped with the burnout issue OR to focus our resources into fewer but grander events that we can run a bit more consistently just with longer gaps.
We absolutely love doing more frequent shows, and maybe will again in future. But, for the sake of full transparency, this just isn’t viable right now with the amount of income we take on average, compared to how much these shows cost to run. (Not that we don’t appreciate every penny given towards our nonsense lil show!) That in turn makes our work load much harder alongside our full time jobs and leads to the aforementioned burnout problem.
So, with that in mind, we are planning 4 shows for 2025! Get these dates in the diary:
- Monday January 6th 2025 – Broadcast Avalanche New Year’s Special 2024 @ twitch.tv/blizzardcomedy
- Thursday 17th April – Blizzard Comedy’s 6th Birthday Showcase @ Gullivers NQ
- Monday 28th July – Jonny’s 30th Birthday Bash @ Gullivers NQ
- Thursday 16th October – @ Gullivers NQ
We haven’t made any bookings for the live shows yet, these will be announced nearer the time – but stay tuned to our social channels for more information!
On the subject of socials, we will not be resuming use of Twitter for the obvious reasons, but we also probably won’t be on BlueSky as we’re all boomers and don’t want to learn new platforms. We’ll still retain Facebook, Instagram, and we’re also setting up a shiny new mailing list you can join here.
As we will not be operating monthly, we will be retiring our Patreon – but are looking into other ways of donating to us. Right now we still have our PayPal, Twitch streams and will continue to accept cash and card donations at our live shows. We have set up a Ko-Fi for the show, where you can make ad hoc donations whenever you would like. If and when we return to more regular events, it also offers the option to make regular monthly donations as we previously have done via Patreon. Check it out here.
We will also continue to film and stream our live shows over Twitch to improve accessibility for those not local to Manchester or otherwise unable to easily attend in person.
The final change worth noting, but not really an important one, is that I will no longer be crafting unique playlists for every live show interval. Instead, I want to use this opportunity as a way to promote and celebrate cool underground bands we like with aligning values to ours. So if you are in, or know someone in a band that has lefty, queer, inclusive values of any musical genre who would be interested in showcasing their tracks at our live show as a bit of free publicity, let us know with a comment or a DM or by emailing Jonny@blizzardcomedy.co.uk.
Otherwise, we should be the same old neurodivergent millennial chaotic comedy club you all know and love! I don’t know whether this structure will continue into 2026, but what I will say is a massive thank you to everyone who has been supporting us throughout the last 5 odd years. Without you this would be a tragic self-indulgence that I’d probably still do, but with even less reward, and you all really do make what we do feel like something special, whether you donate financially, volunteer, or just come and enjoy our shows in the audience.
Love you all, and hope to see you very soon ❤
