Our teams for this episode are:

Mary Cross

Mary Cross is the comedic whirlwind you didn’t know you needed. With her own unique brand of frantic and hilarious energy, this delightful comedian, writer, and podcaster takes the stage by storm. As possibly the world’s angriest Buddhist, she fearlessly uncovers the humour in life’s rollercoaster ride, leaving audiences on a euphoric high. And while her mum may forever yearn for a doctor, Mary has found her therapy in comedy.

“After the interval we had Mary Cross – Mary is incredibly natural on stage and continuing the theme of very friendly and likeable performers on this bill. Mary talks about her experiences being a gay Mum, a voice which really isn’t heard very much on the comedy circuit, and it is a delight to experience. Mary Cross is confident, charming, and charismatic. One of those people who has a real infectious sense of humour, a warm wit that really makes you all feel in on the jokes, not just that they’re being told to you. Yeah, no notes from me, Mary is a joy to watch, and I’m so excited to see her develop even more on the circuit.” – Blizzard Comedy
“If anyone is approached by Mary, give her a spot! She was ace.” – Jason Cooke, Comedy Balloon
“One to watch!” – James Crook, Laughienda

and Patrick Healy

Patrick began performing when he was 18, and a year later had reached the finals of the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny? and Hackney Empire New Act of the Year competitions- all while still a teenager. His dry, left-field observations, relaxed stage presence, and “idiosyncratic worldview” (London Evening Standard) have led to regular appearances at some of the country’s biggest comedy clubs, which Patrick is pretty happy about.

“An idiosyncratic worldview” – London Evening Standard
“His down-to-earth, self-deprecating humour has the crowd in stitches. Cutting a relaxed figure on-stage, he always has a small smile across his face as the audience laugh at almost everything he has to say. It is a strong guest appearance that adds variety to the show.” – Wee Review

with team captain Katie Mitchell

A rising star of the Midlands comedy circuit, Katie Mitchell’s comedy is alternative yet pervasive. She revels in a mainstream stand-up environment, as well as more specific events like cabaret, burlesque, and music festivals.

versus

Ben Hodge

Ben Hodge is quickly becoming seen as one of the most exciting new acts on the circuit. His unique outlook as a trans man has seen him earn the title of Liverpool’s Top 30 under 30. Since his debut in November 2018 his comedy has been lit up with positive reviews. Ben has also been in high demand at pride events and LGBT+ focused events along with trial spots for Plane Comedy, CAN Comedy, Trapdoor and Quantum Leopard in London. Ben took his work-in-progress stand-up show to Edinburgh Fringe, It’s a Boy?, which gained a lot of hype for his humorous approach to being trans in today’s society.

“Relatable, even if his experiences are unusual” – Chortle
“Ben is such an exciting act. Tonnes of charm and stage presence all topped off with killer jokes.” – Kiri Pritchard-Mclean
“Relatable and likeable and infinitely self aware” – Blizzard Comedy

and Charlotte Cropper

Charlotte Cropper is a triple threat (Gen Z, Gemini, Ginger). Her anecdotal and conversational style laced with wit and whimsy makes her a “viscerally relatable” (The Meteor) new voice on the UK comedy scene. She is a Supported Artist at the New Adelphi Theatre, creator and host of CroppaChoppa’s Slumber Party, a 2021 Chortle Student Comedy Award Finalist, and an alumnus of the University of Salford’s Edinburgh Stand-Up Showcase SalFUNNI.

“Cropper is going places, make no mistake about that” – Notts Comedy Review
“Thoroughly engaging presence” – Chortle
“Viscerally relatable” – The Meteor
“Bouncy and friendly stage presence that makes you feel like her bestie” – Blizzard Comedy

with guest team captain Tom Short

Experimental comedian, improvised clown.

“The fringe’s lowkey Keyser Soze” – British Comedy Guide

with host Jonny Collins

Jonny Collins is an aggressively inclusive Non-Binary comedian, Jonny pulls no punches yet makes everyone feel welcome and represented in their thought provoking, and well constructed deconstructions of gender, sexuality and politics. With radical leftist ideals and a fast and furious delivery style, Jonny Collins is a favourite of socialist, anarchists, feminists (of the trans inclusive variety), and queer activists alike.

“Jonny is a force of nature on stage. A whirlwind of hilarity with a unique viewpoint, they energy and passion personified.” – XS Malarkey

“Jonny Collins is deceptively rapid-fire, with a gag rate that would shame most one-line merchants. They can bring a simmer to a boil with ease, and make a huge mess of your kitchen.” – James Ross (Quantum Leopard)
