Charlotte Cropper and Laura Monmonth v Jake Pickford and Nathan Virica | BCBA S03 E09

We have packed our first Broadcast Avalanche of 2023 with some of the finest minds in comedy to ensure that we are best equipped to make sense of whatever the first month of the New Year brings us.

This episode features:

Charlotte Cropper

Charlotte gigs regularly around the North West and Midlands with a deceptively playful style, laced with wit and whimsy. She performed at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2019 as part of SalFUNNI. She was a Chortle Student Comedy Award 2021 Finalist and has had her digital comedy work streamed by Funny Women and broadcast by BBC Upload. She is currently a Supported Artist at the New Adelphi Theatre.

“Grabs your attention and holds it” – Notts Comedy Review
“Thoroughly engaging presence” – Chortle
“Viscerally relatable” – The Meteor

and

Laura Monmoth

Performing for nine years, incorporating technology, animations and surrealism in with classical influences of Jasper Carrott and Rowan Atkinson.

Best Show Winner – Morecambe Comedy Festival
Breaking Talent Award Winner – 2018 Birmingham Comedy Festival

with team captain Bobbie Jones

A combination of Dad Jokes and Daddy Issues, Bobbie-Ann Jones is one of the funniest prediabetic queers ever to come from Wolverhampton. She once made her counsellor cry and laugh at the same time, and she’s still proud of it. Is often seen carrying a single chocolate bar in a Sainsburys bag for life and rocking a killer rack.

“One To Watch” – Funny Women 2017

“Obvious Talent” – The Student Newspaper 2018

and

Jake Pickford

The phenomenal Jake Pickford of Jake Pickford fame. Sexual deity, comedy extraodinaire, astute deipnosophist, peruser of dictionaries.

“Hilarious” – Ross Noble
“Hilarious” – Seann Walsh
“Hilarious” – Mark Dolan

“Relaxed, jovial and quick” – Limelight Magazine

and Nathan Virica

Manchester-based. Probably the second most famous comedian from Harrogate behind Maisie Adam. (Admittedly, he can’t think of any others off the top of his head.)

Formerly a musician of 15 years. Then he hit 30, realised he couldn’t be arsed anymore & decided to do comedy instead. The comedy equivalent of Elvis Presley’s last bowel movement; morbid, horrible, difficult to sit through, darkly hilarious and performed by a great artist.

“Comedy with a cutting political edge that hits its targets.” – Simeon Word (Lancashire Post)
“Hilarious. A natural talent in high demand.” – Kevin O’Brien (Gold at the Bijou Cinema)

with team captain Amarpal Singh

Amarpal had the fortune and misfortune of being brought up in Bradford by working class parents but falling into the bland trapdoor of middle aged and middle class monotony. Now as he hits his third quarter-life crisis, his stand up goes back to reflect on the bizarre contrast growing up and how it still effects him today: from school yard racism to bringing up a mixed race child, the show is a tender love letter to his family, his home town and the mental health issues that they both helped create.

“His likable and easy going style took the audience to a raucous place!” – The Lounge Comedy

“…it has to be said that he went down a storm. His no holds barred, ridiculously silly and funny performance was loved by the audience who all had positive reviews for him at the end of his stint. Certainly one to watch!!!!” – Groove pad

“…He has the classic combo of great material with being a really likable bloke” – 10 of the best

with host Jonny Collins

Jonny Collins is an aggressively inclusive Non-Binary comedian, Jonny pulls no punches yet makes everyone feel welcome and represented in their thought provoking, and well constructed deconstructions of gender, sexuality and politics. With radical leftist ideals and a fast and furious delivery style, Jonny Collins is a favourite of socialist, anarchists, feminists (of the trans inclusive variety), and queer activists alike.

“Jonny is a force of nature on stage. A whirlwind of hilarity with a unique viewpoint, they energy and passion personified.” – XS Malarkey

“Jonny Collins is deceptively rapid-fire, with a gag rate that would shame most one-line merchants. They can bring a simmer to a boil with ease, and make a huge mess of your kitchen.” – James Ross (Quantum Leopard)
